Questions we actually get asked
Is this real silver or gold?
No. Ghungroo sells imitation jewellery — an oxidised silver-tone or gold-plated finish over a base-metal alloy. The stones are cut and cabochon glass in kundan-style settings and the pearls are faux. Nothing we sell is precious metal or a natural gemstone, and it is priced accordingly.
Will the oxidised finish change over time?
Yes, and that is normal. Oxidising is a deliberate darkening of the surface, so the finish is not uniform to begin with and no two pairs age identically. High points rub lighter where they touch skin and clothing, and recessed filigree stays dark. Gold plating is a thin layer and wears fastest at the earring post and any edge that catches.
Are the bigger pairs heavy to wear?
Less than they look. The domes on our jhumkas are hollow and the chandbali crescents are pierced filigree rather than solid metal, so a wide pair carries much less weight on the earlobe than its size suggests. Every product page includes a photo of the pair being worn so you can judge the drop against a face before you buy.
Can I wear these if my ears are sensitive?
We cannot promise it. Base-metal alloys can contain nickel, which is the usual cause of irritation, and we do not currently publish a nickel declaration for our range — so we will not describe these as hypoallergenic. If you react to costume jewellery, wear a new pair for a short stretch first, or fit your own surgical-steel posts.
How should I clean and store them?
Wipe with a dry, soft cloth after wearing and put them away before the perfume goes on, not after. Keep them out of water — that includes washing your face and getting caught in the rain. Store each pair in its own pouch so the finishes do not rub against each other.
